On June 21, 2008, at the second annual Fundraiser Brandon D. Seminatore was presented with the Lt. Jose A. Santiago Scholarship. Brandon is a graduate of Live Oak High School, Morgan Hill, California and is attending the University of California Davis, pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology, with the ultimate goal to enter the medical field.
Brandon came highly recommended by his teachers and Community Service Coordinators. His interest in the medical profession speaks directly to the vision of the Foundation, which is to assist those who ultimately choose to serve humanity.
2007
Michael A. Stevens was the very first recipient of the Lt. Jose A. Santiago Memorial Scholarship, an honor which is very fitting being that Michael's late father, Doug Stevens, worked with Jose early in his career with the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff.
Michael graduated from Gilroy High School in June of 2007 and is attending currently the University of California Los Angeles, with the intent of pursuing a major in Political Science, with hopes of continuing to Law School and focusing on Criminal Law.
I have completed my first quarter as an animal science major at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. I feel that I have adapted well to the campus and community. It has offered me a chance to embrace my independence. The transition from a parental aided lifestyle to a more independent lifestyle has showed me the importance of time management. Academically, I have found my first quarter challenging, but I completed the courses and was pleased with my grades. Cal Poly's "learn by doing" philosophy has enabled me to hands-on monitor the animals in their natural habitat. I have also found myself interested in many of the clubs offered on campus. Cal Poly has approximately 300 clubs and I have chosen to become part of the Veterinarian Club and other clubs. The veterinarian club's activities have offered me the chance to be exposed to laboratory equipment similar to that used in a veterinarian clinic. Cal Poly has taught me to become more involved in the opportunities the campus offers, which is why I have found myself researching many of the enterprises and internships. For example I have become interested in the quail enterprise and internships that involve the training of guide dogs. The enterprises not only offer a hands-on experience, but they allow me to become more involved with what I hope to pursue in the future. I am excited to be part of the enterprises that I have recently researched and will look forward to breeding, caring, and managing quails. I also am excited to begin my next quarter at Cal Poly since my first quarter at Cal Poly went well.
